Become a PRO in Choosing Flowers for Any Occasion

Do you know why it is not appropriate to give red roses to your boss? Because each flower has a different meaning. Red roses, for instance, symbolize love and emotions. They are more appropriate for romantic occasions such as Valentines Day or your beloved birthday. Very few people actually master the art of choosing the right flowers for any occasion. Here is a brief guide that can help you avoid embarrassing mistakes.

Birthdays

Appropriate:Each month has its own flower. Marigold, for instance, is for October and Carnation for January. Rose is for June but avoid red ones unless it’s your beloved’s birthday.

Not Appropriate: Other than red roses, yellow carnations should be avoided on birthdays. They are usually reserved for sympathy.

Anniversaries

Appropriate: Each milestone anniversary has its specific flower. For the fifth anniversary, it's daisy. For twenty-fifth, it’s iris. If you are not sure of the year, go for red or pink flowers.

Not Appropriate:Avoid yellow flowers in general as they symbolize friendship. Yellow carnation, again, is for sad events.

Date Nights

Appropriate: If you don’t want to confess your love yet, choose tulips or orchids over roses. They are romantic but not too overwhelming.

Not Appropriate:Avoid bringing flowers on the very first date. It will make you seem too desperate. Avoid red roses unless you plan to propose your date.

Condolences

Appropriate: White and blue flowers make the most appropriate choice to convey your condolences. Chrysanthemums, daisies, and lilies will comfort the grieving ones. Yellow carnations will share your

sympathies. Not Appropriate: Red, pink, orange, or any bright colored flower should be avoided. Get Well Soon

Appropriate:Marigold, iris, and gladioli are preferred for patients recovering at home or at the hospital. These flowers symbolize health, peace, and resilience. Not Appropriate: Avoid flowers with strong fragrance.

Wedding

Appropriate:Wedding flowers should be right according to the theme and choice of the bride and groom. The bride should have the biggest bouquet in the room.

Not Appropriate: In most cultures, flowers are not considered an appropriate wedding gift. Bridesmaids’ bouquets shouldn’t be bigger than the brides bouquet. Flowers for every other occasion, such as Thank You Flowers or Congratulations flowers, should be picked according to the personal preferences of the person. If you know their favorite color and a little bit about their personality, you will make a perfect choice.
